Finals review By Gowtham Nedunuri

2009 World Tball champions MEGABYTES

After lot of effort went to into to find a suitable ground to play the grand Finale, finally High meadows was selected as the Battle field for DCL 2009 Championships…
Megabytes vs Juggeranuts is always a gr8 battle considering their rich History. Juggs owned Megabytes until 2006 and Finally Megabytes turned the tables from 2007 and won their last 3 encounters (07, 08, 09 reg season)..

History wise lot was on stake for this Game.

Megabytes had shocking news in the morning knowing that Lightning Jeet could not make it to the finals because of his work commitments. As that debacle was not enough to shake up the megz, they received a further blow when they came to know that Aditya could not play the game too as his Michca 20-20 final got postponed from 11:00 Am to 12:30 pm because of heavy downpour the previous day. With two of their Big Fish out even before a single ball was bowled the Megz had to make last min strategy changes to get prepared for the Finals.
Both the teams assembled @ 1:00 PM and @ this time news spread that Juggs did not have Sundar for this match too..

The toss was conducted @ 1:30 PM. Megabytes Captain with his excellent toss winning percentage (<10%)>90%).. Hari always wins the toss when he calls so Megabytes Captain asked him to go for the toss and make sure he calls it..
This is the Funny part:
Hari goes for the toss along with Dr. Anand and looses it. Upon knowing the result the megz skip says don’t worry S*** happens. Just then I came to know that Hari did not call for the toss. Surprised I asked Hari why did u not call for the toss as we discussed extensively what benefits (Haris winning percentage when calling toss) we could reap if he calls the toss. To this Hari replied that either of the Umpire Vijay Namburi or Dr. Anand sold a dummy to him saying that since Juggs were from Rochester hills and Megabytes was from Farmington, Juggs were the Guest team and hence would have the opportunity to call first :D..
Jokes apart, Juggs win the Toss and choose to Bat.
Megabytes started of with Hari and Matta..Juggs shuffled their batting order to surprise Megz and sent in Joy along with my DCL idol Sriram. Coming from a SF game where the Megz team did not even concede even a single wide in the entire game against Brownstown in the SF, Hari started off the proceedings for Megz with two wides of the 1st two balls. Matta bowled the 2nd over and took the wicket of Joy who was taken brilliantly by Arpan @ forward short leg. The next over Sriram played a pull shot of a shorter one from Hari and the ball skied to the keeper. The entire Megz team had their hearts in their mouth as they knew how much this wicket would mean to them. Jala took a simple skier and the the great man was not to play another game winning knock this time around in the finals. Azam and Ashwin joined in with 2 wickets falling and played defensively. I thought juggz were over defensive and soon the score read 8 overs 9 runs 2 wickets..For the break the Juggs were 12 overs 22 for 2 courtesey a maiden from Raghu in the 12th over..Even after the break the Juggz never tried to accelerate but were slowly accumulating runs..@ one stage they were 40 odd for 4 wickets in 17 overs when the Megz Captain brought in Himslef and Binod to the attack. Goutham and Binod took the remaining 6 wickets between them and the Megz bundled the Juggs who averaged 80 odd against teams in pool X for 51 in the 24th over.
(Goutham 4 wickets, Binod 2 wickets, Raghu 2 wickets, Hari 1 wicket Matta 1 wicket)
Megabytes started their chase cautiously. Joy was spitting venom with this pace and Ramesh was choking both the openers with his tight line and length. The Megz then lost Harish and in came Praveen. Praveen accelerated for a bit while enjoying his luck (2 lives) and finally fell for an equally good catch from Juggs @ forward short leg. With just 3 balls to spare for the break Megabytes opener Hari (Rajini 1 to 11) fell and Megabytes were all of sudden 25/3. Megz Skipper joined Matta and soon they started to rotate strike and then Megz accelerated with 2 sixes to complete a historic run chase to win the DCL 2009 Championship by 7 wickets.
(Goutham 17*, Praveen 14, Matta 6* )

It was a great day for the Megabytes as they broke their DCL curse to finally win the Coveted DCL CUP.

It was a fabulous end to a great season as many players had to sacrifice a lot of things. Megabytes had 75% of their players playing MichCa 40-40 and 20-20 and had to go through lot of pain trying to juggle between players for all the leagues.
The Megz danced and dined with the Fair lady from dusk till dawn…

Special Thanks to all the Blog owners who piled up the pressure on the remaining teams and all the Analysts who spiced up DCL 2009 with their breath taking reviews.
We went a step ahead this season even bringing in Nature and Wind into the Mix :) Thanks to Sai Viswanatha and Jagan for taking on field interviews and making both the finalists feel like stars atleast for a couple of hours. Waiting to see those clips and pics.
Last but not the Least I would rlly Like to thank all the DCL fans for making the Finale a Great success. To all the Supporters of Megabytes and Juggeranuts, Friends, All the Ladies who made this DCL 2009 season a grand success.

To the score sheet afficandos - SCORE SHEET UPDATED FOR Team MEGABYTES.

Juggernauts and finals history- Jagan

1997
CBSI-Chrysler Vs Juggernauts
Juggernauts lost by one run, umpires made a mistake by allowing one of the bowlers to bowl over the limit and bowler took advantage of it and cleaned Juggernauts last wicket with approximately 17 runs required to win and umpires quickly realized the mistake and nullified that over and called back the batsman and continued the game and last pair put together 16 runs and ended up loosing by one run.

1998
CBSI-Chrysler Vs Juggernauts

Juggernauts won easily in a revenge match.

2000
Lansing Vs Juggernauts
Batting first Lasing scored 80+ runs and chasing that juggs were all out 70+. Those who don’t know DCL history Lasing was second team to win DCL cup from out side metro Detroit and the first one was CBSI-Grand Rapids. Pure chemistry and hard work by Lansing won them accolades from whole DCL.

2001
Juggernauts Vs A2C2

I can say confidently that I haven't seen a team like A2C2 till today. A2C2 had best talent coupled with best sledger in Mahesh. They had a lefty {sorry forgot the name} who registered first ever fifty in DCL. A2C2 was the only team that was unbeaten in 2001. Everybody expected them to win easily against Juggernauts.
A2C2 batting first scored 93 and Juggernauts chased it comfortably with score reading 94/5.
Highlights of the match
Lefty was flown from California exclusively for this match but failed to contribute with the bat.
Vijay Thrishan of Juggernauts was instrumental in the chase when he got out Mahesh the best sledger and keeper of A2C2 made rounds around Vijay trishan bad mouthed him at will but thanks to Juggernauts captain Madhu vedhaji for showing some cool and controlling the game. Till this point whole crowd was supporting A2C2 and with this incident A2C2 lost the respect of DCL fans.

2003
GLCC Vs Juggernauts

Game between under dogs GLCC Vs Super Stars Juggernauts. GLCC a second year team surprised many by reaching finals. GLCC had all new faces to DCL, to name some Ashraf Rajguru, Samish kilam, Bhargav and Ajay Chadalvada. Everybody in the crowd expected Juggernauts to win it easily and Juggernauts made sure that crowd is not disappointed by scoring 110 runs batting first. Chasing 110 and new team against strong bowling attack is mission impossible but Ash and Samish had other thoughts in the end GLCC chased in 24th over.

Highlights of the match

Cover drive and on drive all along the ground for 4 by Samish Kilam off Ram ballal

2006
GLCC Vs Juggernauts

Batting first GLCC scored 53 and Juggernauts chased it with an over to spare losing 9 wickets. Sriram showed the world how good he is chasing the totals. It was one the best matches I have seen. GLCC were 0/2 in 2 overs courtesy Jeeth Sigh of Mega Bytes who failed to call a clear NO Ball and failed to see bat pad before adjudging LBW. Losing two inform batsmen with out a run on the board put immense pressure on GLCC and pressure folded them to a mere 53. Though Juggs lost 9 wickets again two key wickets {sriram and Sundahr ?} are again courtesy of umpire but was too late in the game.

2009
MegaBytes Vs Juggernauts

As I said earlier based on strength Megabytes should win the contest easily. In reality a game is won or lost only after playing the game. On a given day any team can win as no team reaches the finals with out caliber to win it all.
Just to give boost to the hopes of Juggernauts,

Nobody expected Juggernauts to beat A2C2 in 2001

Nobody expected GLCC to beat Juggernauts in 2003

Nobody expected GLCC to beat Megabytes in 2004

Nobody expected Juggernauts to beat GLCC in 2006

As a side note thanks to Juggernauts ex Captain Madhu Vedhaji and current captain Anand, with out you guys DCL would have died way long back. Long live the legacy of Juggernauts.

Expected Team

Sriram
Don’t have to say much about Sriram, people call him wall of DCL but I call winner
Ashwin
All these days I thought this guy can only defend but the one sixer off Vijay Numburi changed my thinking towards him. He just has to play more aggressively.
Sundar
A silent killer with bat an ball
Bala
The jonty of DCL has to play big role
Ajay
Vocal leader of Juggs
Anand
Most under rated talent in DCL
Ramesh
Wicket taking bowler, needs fire with bat to justify all rounder tag
Joy
Fearsome fast bowler who is capable of running thru the megs
Arun
A good bat needs to play long innings.
Azam
No idea
Sudhakar.
No idea

Viju and Vijay are officiating this match making this all committee finals. Yasir is missing from the action.. lol

Thank god no betting in DCL this year and lucky Megabytes "chandra" is playing for you and lucky Juggs "Babu" is not umpiring to convert catches to sixers, so no match fixing off the field.. Just kidding.

Megabytes and finals history- Jagan

2002
Troy Vs Megs
Megs were unfortunate team, had to play both semi finals and finals on the same day. Tired legs cost them the game. Any ways "Troy" the only team to win the cup unbeaten in a season a DCL record nobody came close.

2004
GLCC Vs Megs

Megs were the most dominating team
First game of the season was between GLCC and Megs, GLCC batting first scored 36 and megs chased very easily. A new star born in DCL – Binod Sigh., Terrorized every team with his pace bowling and deadly leg cutter.

Finals : GLCC Vs Megs, batting first GLCC managed to score only 70 runs. Three run outs + 5 wicket haul by Raghu Kurapati. Chasing 70 megs were all over GLCC needing 9 runs to win in 3 overs with 3 wickets in hand , miracle happened GLCC snatched cup from Megs hands.

2007
GLCC Vs Megs
GLCC batting first were 19/3 at break and ended up scoring 70 and GLCC never looked back. Over Dependency on Goutham cost them the match.

2009
Megs Vs Juggs

I am expecting Megs to win based on strengths.
All these years Megs are bowling power house and batting was "only Goutham". Just get goutham's wicket and see others suffer psychologically with "goutham out we don’t win " syndrome and megs always missed 10 or 15 runs buffer that was needed to win against good teams. Just to give an example in 2007 finals as soon as Goutham was out most of the megs lost their cool ended up in verbal brawl with GLCC players instead of thinking about how to win, most unfortunate thing is their veteran leadership joined the party instead of preaching on how to win.
Fortunately this time around team has matured a lot and they have more winners with bat than previous years.

Expected Team

Goutham
Unless gowtham throws away his wicket, I don't think any bowler in Juggs is capable of taking his wicket with the exception of Anand.
Aditya Kumar
Adithya and Gowtham made centuries in MICHCA on same day playing for different teams ;)
Vijay Jala
Classy batsman and excellent keeper.
Raghu Tadi
Everybody knows about him J
Rangawamy Sridhar
Sridhar is about energy
Praveen Kumar
Rookie of the year
Jeet Singh
Don't have to say much about him, he made some people cry;)
Harish
Adds value to any team
HariHaran
RajniKanth o Rajni Kanth… 1 to 11 any where…
Binod Singh
DCL Fans talk about his bowling, watch out for his sixers.
Vijay Matta
Matta.. People aren't coming to watch finals; they just want to see some thunder over Farmington Hills

MegaBytes vs Juggernauts : DCL Final 2009 – A Preview By Rehan

RBCC’s journey towards surprising the DCL world was halted by experienced campaigners Juggernauts and the only person who predicted these two finalists was no other than the Megabytes skipper. Kudos to Goutham’s analytical skills and no wonder he is the leader of one of the most talented teams in DCL.
This year, both MegaBytes and Juggernauts have reinforced their line up with some new recruits, who are already playing major roles in their wins. While Praveen Kumar and Vijay Matta have excelled for MegaBytes with both bat and ball in crucial games; Bala and Ramesh have strengthened Juggs formidable attack.
Juggernauts would like to forget the shocking memories of the last encounter these two had in the regular season. However, I have a feeling that the two tormentors in that game (Matta and Raghu) may not even get a chance to bowl in the Final. Not sure if Juggs will take it as a positive or negative …..
It is highly likely that the team winning the toss will bat first but I have a feeling that Juggernaut’s best shot will be chasing a total of something under 80. With Joy, Sundar and Anand, their bowling is capable of restricting the opponents to a modest total. Of course their whole batting will revolve around the ‘wall of DCL’ Sriram. If Megs somehow manage to get Sriram early, then I think that will pretty much seal the deal for them. Bala’s hitting abilities can also prove handy if their top order manage to survive Meg’s fearful bowling attack led by Jeet.
On the other hand MegaBytes are gifted with such quality players that anyone from the 11 players can be sent in to open the innings and it won’t be surprising, if the person who came in to bat at # 11 in the SF game (Hari) may come in to bat at # 1 in the Final. Even with such a strong line up, Goutham and Binod are still the players to watch out for.
Team MegaBytes always remains a force to send chills down the spine of any opponents but for some strange reasons are yet to wear the crown of DCL championship. 2009 seems to be their year though and if they couldn’t do it this year, then …… (I don’t have words to say any further)
